The institution has highlighted the research that the two veterinarians have conducted on platelet-rich plasma of the canine species

The Official College of Veterinarians of Almería has awarded an accésit of the XI National Research Prize Francisco Fernández López to the work entitled ‘Determination of platelet concentration and transforming growth factor (TGF-B1) in platelet-rich plasma of the canine species’, whose authors are Inmaculada Peris Llobregat and the professors of the CEU Cardenal Herrera Joaquín Sopena Juncosa University.

The latter collected the cheque of 600 euros with which the award is endowed by the president of the College, Emilio Gómez-Lama in an event in which the mayor of Almería Luis Rogelio Rodríguez-Comendador and Alberto González, vice president of the Veterinary Association of Oriental Andalusia were also present. With this award, the research will be presented at the ESVOT Congress (European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology) in Bologna next year.

The objective of the work was to “standardize a technique of centrifugation of blood in canines that allows to obtain the fraction of plasma richest in growth factors”, according to Professor Serra himself. In this way, “a working protocol of clinical veterinary application” was achieved, within the line of research on growth factors in which the Faculty of Veterinary Of the CEU works, “in which the optimal centrifugation times and speeds are established”, explains Serra.

Precisely, the clinical application of the research was highlighted by the jury of the prize, composed this time by Antonio Marín Garrido, president of the Royal Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Eastern Andalusia; Francisco José Moyano López, Professor of Biology at the University of Almería; Tomás Francisco Martínez Moya, professor at the University of Almería and member of the Royal Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Eastern Andalusia and Tesifón Parrón Carreño, head of the Servio de Salud de Almería.
