The García Cugat Foundation signs an agreement with the CEU-Cardenal Herrera de Valencia for the creation of the new Chair named after García Cugat in tribute to the orthopedic surgeon, traumatologist and specialist in physical education medicine José García Cugat, founder of the Spanish Association of Arthroscopy.
The agreement has been endorsed in Valencia by the President of the Foundation, Montserrat García Balletbó and the rector of the CEU-UCH,Rosa Visiedo.
The holders of the Chair are Drs. Ramón Cugat and José María Carrillo.
The Chair of Surgery and Regenerative Medicine will promote three lines of research:
. The study of the effect of Plasma Rich in Growth Factors on repairs of different tissues, with special emphasis on the musculoskeletal and tegumentary system.
. The use of autologous mesenchymal fat cells in tissue regenerative therapies.
. The determination of early markers of musculoskeletal damage in sports medicine.
A fruitful collaboration
Since 2009, the Surgery Unit of the Department of Medicine and Animal Surgery of the CEU Cardenal Herrera University has been collaborating with theGarcía Cugat Foundation to conduct research related to surgery and regenerative medicine. One of the pioneering projects that both entities will continue to promote within the framework of the new Chair is that of the treatment of osteoarthrosis through regenerative therapies, combining the use of mesenchymal cells obtained from adipose tissue and plasma rich in growth factors to repair joint cartilage.
In the field of sports medicine, it is already collaborating in the application of this type of plasma in ruptures of anterior knee cruciate ligament, which have a high frequency in young athletes. Another area of application is the regeneration of the skin in skin lesions, applying this type of plasma.
The Foundation will contribute 90,000 Euros
The García Cugat Foundation will finance the new Chair of Surgery and Regenerative Medicine with a contribution of 90,000 euros. Along with the development of the aforementioned lines of research, collaboration with CEU-UCH is also contemplated in various postgraduate and doctoral activities in Health Sciences, as well as the organization of conferences and congresses and the award of scholarships and awards in the field of regenerative medicine.
